In the past, it took a lot of work to set up systems that allow users to access Atlassian applications with a smartcard. Administrators who wanted to set up access for smartcard users had to tinker with property files or XML files — frankly, this was a pain.
In our latest update for the CAC/PIV Authenticator for the Atlassian Suite version 3.0, we’ve simplified the configuration process and eliminated the pain. The update comes with two major changes: first, Jira and Confluence can now be installed using the Universal Plugin Manager. This means that installation of Client Certificate Authentication 3.0 is as quick as retrieving the .jar and uploading it to your Jira and Confluence instances. In conjunction with this functionality, we have also moved the configuration for the CAC/PIV solution into the application itself.

The release number with these changes is 3.0, and it supports the following products and
Jira — 7.3 through 7.5
Confluence — 6.3 through 6.4
Crowd — 2.11 and 2.12
